SINANOGA DEL TRÁNSITO |
Fue mandada construir por Samuel Leví en 1.366 Tesorero de Pedro I de Castilla defensor del pueblo de Israel. La cabecera y partes altas están decoradas con yesería nazarí (dinastía musulmana que reinó en Granada durante los siglos XIIl al XV) y con inscripciones hebraicas.
En el muro derecho, está la tribuna reservada a las mujeres. El artesonado es de preciada madera de alerce, Al igual que el de Sta. María la blanca.
Tras la expulsión de los judíos en 1.459 dejó de ser sinagoga y pasó a la orden de Calatrava y luego a la de Alcántara. Hoy día oficia actos y exhibe numerosas muestras de su culto original sefardí.
Synagogue of the Transit
Ordered to be constructed in 1,336 by Samuel Leví, treasurer of Peter I of Castille and Advocate of the Sephardic Jews; its head-board and high parts are decorated with nazarí plaster (Muslim dynasty that ruled in Granada from the 13th cent. to the 15th cent.) with Hebrew inscriptions.
The women's pews are found in its right wall. The artistry is of costly larch, as well as the one of Saint Mary the White.
After the expulsion of the Sephardic Jews in 1,459, it stopped being a synagogue and came under the religious Order of Calatrava, and afterwards of the Alcántara. Today it hosts the official acts and numerous exhibits of its original Sephardic beliefs.
