PÓRTICO DE LA GLORIA

El Pórtico de la Gloria, es en realidad la fachada románica del templo que hoy se halla cubierta por el Obradoiro. Con sus doscientas figuras maravillosamente talladas constituye una de las más valiosas obras del arte románico universal. En el centro, una columna fasciolada de varias articulaciones sostiene el tímpano, y ante ella, en otra columna, la imagen sedente del Santo Patrón. En el tímpano aparece Cristo entronizado, rodeado de ángeles enmarcados por 40 ejércitos celestiales; en las arquivoltas, los 24 ancianos del Apocalipsis tocando instrumentos musicales. Y los pilares, a derecha e izquierda, están rodeados de columnas profusamente esculpidas con las figuras del Antiguo y Nuevo testamento.

Gate of the Glory

The Gate of the Glory is in reality the Romanic façade of the temple that toady is covered by the Obradorio. With its 200 figures marvelously carved, it constitutes on e of the most valuable masterpieces of the Romanic universally. In its center, a column of several branches supports the Tympanum, and before it, in another column sits the image of the Saint Patron. In the tympanum appears the Christ enthroned, surrounded by angels marked by 40 heavenly armies. In the arching vaults, the 24 elders of the Apocalypse (Revelation) are playing musical instruments. The Pillars, at the right and left, are surrounded by columns sculpted with figures of the Old and New Testament.
