Santiago de Compostela tiene desde hace siglos una innegable tradición universitaria que hoy en día perdura con fuerza.

Desde la pronunciada cuesta que une el feirón (mercadillo) con y la Rúa Vixe da Cerca se divisa el aislado Belvís sobre su cerro, bordeando el lateral de la facultad de Geografía e Historia, la Travesía de la Universidad que acaba en la Rúa do Castro.

El antiguo edificio de la Universidad es una construcción neoclásica del siglo XVIII según trazas de Melchor de Prado, modificadas por Ventura Rodríguez y Pérez Machado. Destacan la sillería del coro del Rectorado, el Aula Magna, y la Biblioteca, con un importante fondo de incunables.

Santiago of Compostela had since centuries ago an indisputable academic tradition that continues even today.

From the steep incline that unites the Ferión (market place) with the Rúa (Road) Vixe da Cerca, it is possible to see the isolated Belvis over its hill, around the School of Geography and History, the Street of the University ending at the Rúa do Castro.
The Old Building of the University is a neoclassic construction of the 18th cent. following the plans of Melchor de Prado, modified by Ventura Rodriguez and Perez Machado. Noted are the pews of the rectory choir, the Great Hall and the Library with an important collection of incunables.
